One of the biggest Jain melas is that of Mahavir Swami – 24th Tirthankara when pilgrims to the shrine come from entire subcontinent to worship and seek the blessings. The image of the Mahavir Swami is washed early in the morning, the ritual called Prakshalam. This is followed by pujan and evening aarti. Festivities reach the peak when the image of the deity is taken to the bank of river Gambhiri in a grand procession for Kalash abhishek. The image is carried in a Gold chariot drawn by two bullocks. Peacoks fans are waved over the statue and a male descendant of the cowherd, who unearthed the image, must push the chariot symbolically or it is believed in will not move. Thousands of pilgrims escort the chariot return with the same grandeur and the image is restored and the image is restored in the Temple.
